Our village church was on the 1pm news today, as its spire was struck by lightening …we are being told we can donate…this is because it appears that a lot of regional money is now going to pay for ND…according to the news report, at least.
Of course, you can donate… to whatever takes your fancy.
Your local church will be the responsibility of the Local Council… and anyone who donates reduces the weight put on the local folk… (Tax Fonciere, Taxe d’ Habitation)…
You don’t have to donate for a church… other good causes are available…
The gist of the report was that maybe regional money should stay regional, as there are several hundred churches other than ND that are in a sorry state of repair
No-one is asking the Regions to donate… it is a local decision, every time…
I remember well when this happened Bob. I drove past it while the pompier and police were still there in numbers.
These reports are interesting. As an aside, M Vialelle married me and hubby.
These clips make me homesick!
I spoke to the lady in the bakers the day after, & she said it sounded like an explosion…houses around the church were evacuated because of the danger of falling debris.
I like Vialelle…I know he’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but he seems very keen on what’s best for the village…not a bad sort, I think.
I think Jean-Baptiste must have worn his best shirt for TV appearance…maybe a trim of his beard at the same time.
He has a habit of looking like an SDF when he’s at work
I agree. When my friend first arrived in St Amans he helped her get a job at the Maison de Retraite. Very sympathetic and helpful.
Your mate wasn’t Irish was she ?
The fire was allegedly caused by the work taking place, I thought all artisans had to have insurance? So where is it.
Also who owns the cathedral, France or the Catholic Church ? Either way it shouldn’t be donations, the church is one of the richest in the world,
ND is owned by the ministry of culture. I doubt anyone could get enough insurance for what is a priceless treasure.
ND is owned by the state and had no insurance as such, I also doubt the companies working on site would be able to obtain public liability cover running to hundreds of millions or more.
Bit like all the crown estate in UK, as no insurance on much of it as would cost far too much.
No she’s French.
Limbo perhaps?
Yes, poor taste.
On a lighter note… a French pal sent me an “Ode à N-D” that he has written… He was in Paris on Monday night and saw the drama at first hand (I wonder if we shall be able to buy his Ode on disc soon…to raise funds for the cause… )
Anyway, I replied, complimenting him on the words, so emotional… and assured him that we, too, felt distraught…
I had to laugh when his reply came zipping into my inbox… seems he had thought about mentioning how “the Brits burned our Joan of Arc” but, in view of our friendship, he had thought better of it and so erased those phrases …
As heresy was only a capital crime for a repeat offence poor Joan was found guilty of cross dressing.
And the french killed princess diana…less deliberately of course…but I think than means we can call it quits and overlook both incidents.
Is it bad that i find this amusing.
