Oyih, that’s harf’me family!
Apparently he criticised her for using whole eggs instead of just the yolks for making her mayonnaise and she was ten minutes late serving her meal.
Just criticism in my view, definitely not bullying.
If this is the standard of complaint, I don’t think he has much to worry about.
He does have a reputation as a bit of a womaniser, three marriages I think.
Frankly, we don’t know what he said, if he said anything or how he said it.
But we need to remember that criticism can be very nasty and upsetting.
I can imagine that criticism in front of others and on camera could/would be absolutely awful if one is not brave enough to counter with something suitable (in this alleged incident, like chucking the mixture over him). That whole incident (had it happened) would have made wonderful TV !
Verbal Bullying is (in my book) when someone in power/authority decries and/or tries to belittle another lesser mortal.
I’ve now seen a few clips from the programme, and I’ve seen parodies and criticism.
It seems that most of the dialogue in the programme was essentially adolescent smut and innuendo.
Fine if that’s your thing, of course, but it’s a bit rich for participants then to complain that Gregg Wallace told jokes about, and was obsessed by, sex, i.e. indulged in the sort of behaviour that the programme expected and encouraged.
Correct.
In 2012 a survey found that there are no maternity wards within the normal audible range of Bow Bells, so it’s just home births now.
Given the change in demographics in that area over the last 20 years, I doubt even those born within earshot of the bells will be identifying as Cockney.
Saison 16 will be in mid October 2025. I’ll be watching.
In the photo above he rather resembles another no bullshit person - John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten) though the comparison probably w ouldn’t please either of 'em.
If you enter Masterchef you should expect to be criticised if you get something wrong.
Why did Rod Stewart complain about his wife being criticised?
Can’t she stand up for herself?
It suggests to me that she shouldn’t have entered if she can’t take any criticism.
If you can’t stand the heat stay out of the kitchen.
I remember watching an episode of the first series of French Masterchef. They’d got to 18 contestants remaining (from an original 10,000 applicants/regional contestants, or so they said), and asked the bottom three of these to compete to remain in the last 16. The task: bake a tarte tatin - ingredients supplied. None of the three knew how to make pastry! I gave up.
He complained about her being humiliated, not critisised.
Surely that is a failure of the selection process more than the candidates?
I suspect deliberate - not a failure. Firstly, they need to get rid of weaker contestants in the early stages. Also, if everyone is equally good there is no challenge and no opportunity to see someone improve.
I agree - probably the basic filter will be that people can cope with the show’s schedule and “will look/act good on TV” before their ability to cook is considered.
As I said, this was the last 18. All three of these had impressed judges in countless regional heats and televised heats before then. They were supposedly really good chefs. And they couldn’t make pastry!
No doubt used to jus-roll
I know a business that went on Dragons Den, initially thinking of investment and getting some ‘free’ publicity. The whole show was geared to generating an emotional response for the cameras, preferably tears. They were also going to take a very big share of your company if you did let them invest, but that’s beside the point.
Pretty much all of what you see on cheap/“reality” tv shows (cooking, selling houses, renovating villages etc etc) is highly edited, scripted and choreographed.
In this particular case they were sensible people with a business to build (successfully - the company is now known as Fitness Genes) and so they got about 30 seconds air time.
I think Greg Wallace’s latest comment about ‘middle-class woman of a certain age’ will ruffle a few feathers . . . .
I saw that and thought “he’s just made things worse for himself” when his career is in the balance.
