I was almost chuckling (grimly) when I read the “born in Russia” in the Press… offered as if it was absolutely definitely a sign of something awful…
Almost as damning as if it had said “born in UK…”
There are several nationalities in our commune. Russian, German, English, Scottish, Irish, Welsh, Belgian, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, South African, Ukrainian etc etc … and, fair enough, the French outnumber the whole lot put together.
We always discuss current happenings, but I shall be careful how I joke with my Russian pals… don’t want to upset 'em.
