My daughter is in France with just a laptop, with an internet connection. Does anyone know if she can get any films online in France, maybe similar to Netflix?

We use Zattoo, it also has a free service but rather than the TV channels find films - avoid UK or French services though because they are limited.
Try Filmon.com http://www.filmon.com/tv/live free streamed Tv there are films on there .
Also consider installing hola which works with chrome and firefox to mask the Ip which means you can watch BBc iplayer itv player and 4Od
