Pacs

I am sure this will have been discussed before but has anyone gone through a civil partnership (PACS) in France?

my question is do I need to go through a Notaire or can we just complete the paperwork which is available online and just hand it in at our local Justice office in Tarbes?

I do need to consult a Notaire regarding wills, putting the house in joint ownership ie. so we both own 100%, so any advise on that will be welcome too

are there any benefits to being pacsed ? what is the point of it really?

thankyou you have been very helpful

I don't remember getting PACSed costing anything at all, but as I say we didn't have any work done by a notaire. My pacsé & I didn't want to put our possessions in common as we are old & both have children so it makes more sense to keep things separate for when we shuffle off the mortal coil - we reside together chez moi as it's more convenient and have a joint income tax declaration, otherwise that's it. He pays his taxes d'habitation/impots fonciers etc & I pay mine.

Thanks Veronique, i thought that might be the case but then I found info on another site that suggested you needed to go though a notaire, can you remember how much it cost?

You don't need to go through a notaire at all - just get all your paperwork (essentially ID, birth certificates & proof that you aren't married) & that's it. I got PACSED in 2011 and it took about 10 days from start to finish. They give you a little booklet with everything you need to have/know at the tribunal. Making property joint will be a notaire job because it isn't automatic with a PACS.
