Paying car import duty at Eurotunnel

Is your car LHD or RHD? I’ve looked at the various UK LHD dealers lists and they seem to have mainly big expensive models and not especially cheap. Also almost no electrics.

Sounds like a result on getting the import done though!

I provided them with a receipt for my purchase of the car and they accepted that

It’s RHD. I looked at those dealers too but they have limited choice.

Sold my old RHD car over here no problem at all

As by example my car bought a couple of years ago, by now in the UK would have reduced in value do you think they would except a third party valuation such as a we buy any car type of operation?

OK no worries. I would prefer a LHD car (and ideally an electric) when I do my move .

Quite possibly me to, it will I am sure take a while to filter through but it will happen I am sure. Remember when LHD cars had little value at all in the UK. I watched many go through auctions and some just didn’t sell that week. A place in the sun changed that market pretty quickly

I still don,t understand how you were able to import a car to France if you are not a resident here,i thought that was one of the many things on a long list that you couldn,t do here, but well done for achieving this.Does anyone know if you can do this at Ouistreham or Cherbourg or St Malo,or is it just Calais for some reason? Thanks.

It’s all about the money, money, money. If it doesn’t work tax it, if it does work tax it.

It could be interesting to buy LHD at auction in UK.

I don’t know enough about cars to risk buying at auction. I would probably end up with one of these.

A non-resident foreigner (Brit) who owns a holiday home in France… can now legally register a car in France, to use in France.
The car must be either bought in France or imported and go through the usual channels to obtain the French Carte Grise using the holiday-home address as the “residence” of the car… put on French number plates if not already got ‘em, get the car insured in France and.. yippee.

NB: the car stays in France when the Brit goes home to UK.
