Paying money in:

My first post, so please forgive such a basic question, but we have received a refund cheque of sorts it appears from the Notaire from the purchase.

Our bank account is with La Poste - but I have no 'paying in book' as such. How do I go about paying this into our account, it's our first cheque, we've only transferred across from England so far.

Thanks in advance.

:-)

The RIB in your cheque book will give you the info you need when giving someone your bank details (4 sets of numbers) but for paying in you should only need your account number and name (which hopefully you can still remember)

No, you dont' do that in the uK - and whilst they have paying in slips at banks, generally they issue you a book, or you have personalised ones in your chequebooks over here.

To my shame I have so many numbers on the information from the bank that I would struggle to work out which ones to fill in I think - sort code and bank account number don't appear anywhere. I'm guessing once I've done it once I'll feel much better about it - it's just that learning curve seems so steep and over the simplest of things at times it's a bit daunting.

Exactly, Steve, forgot to mention that as it's so standard everywhere. I can't remember if you have to do it in the UK...?

I suspect you will also need to write your account number on the back of the cheque and sign it as you would in a bank.

thank you. It's amazing how you take even simple things for granted.

you just pop into any post office and fill out a paying in form (supplied), pop it into an enveloppe (supplied) and drop the enveloppe into the box - you don't even have to wait in the queues now ;-)

Hi Sarah. I've only just opened an account with La Banque Postale, but I have noticed people going into the post office and lodging cheques. I suggest a visit to the post office, with your account number and the cheque, and they should be able to help you. Hope this helps.
