Penalty Points - speeding

No, no, not the signs on the gantry; those are always perfectly clear. The signs I meant are standard motorway white on blue fixed roadside jobs.

You mean like these (albeit these seem to be temporary ones)

I’m afraid that might be due to insufficient observation as I’d expect an announcement such as this one - which is the “start” corresponding to the “end” above (for the M42)

What always puzzles me is when you get an “End” on the advisory signs (the ones typically in the central reservation) but never had any advisory speed limit or lane restriction showing before hand.

“The End of what?” is always the question that goes through my mind.

Precisely, where was the start? In France do they put Fin?

Actually in my experience - especially on that stretch of the M42 - they aren’t always as clear as you’d like.

Normally the last sign that you pass will show “national speed limit” (i.e white with black diagonal bar) but I’ve had several occasions where the gantry sign goes from displaying a speed restriction to not being illuminated with no “active” display that the restriction is no longer applicable. Add in the roadworks and it can be quite hard to figure out whether the current limit is 70, 50 or some other speed.

‘Of Life’ , as you drift across into the oncoming traffic pondering the meaning of life.

Well, in a modern vehicle I can just set it to cruise with lane assist and I can let the car worry about which direction it is going in for a few minutes while I ponder the meaning of life.

I saw someone doing 120km/h and reading a book on the A6 maybe all these bells and whistles on cars are being abused.

A bit late to study the instructions, unless they were looking for how to turn off the cruise control :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

They don’t need to, it will turn itself off when they bang into something.

That’s why I put the question mark. I’m used to southern M1 and M25 where Hadec 3 cameras are mounted on pylons at the edge of the hard shoulder and a separate camera photos the limit displayed if the speed is excessive. The M42in your photo seems to show an earlier version og Hadec without the secondary camera.
Phot below showsHadae (yellow box at right of ganrty support and the camera that takes the speed displayed in the distance.

… Audi have sideview front-mounted cameras on their top models …

Which is why Labour are in government, for a wee while, they just can’t leave people alone!

The Tiguan is so annoying.

I just get settled off and it starts pinging me to take over steering

Mine does that - though it does wait decent amount of time.
