Thanks to everyone for their helpful advice on phones, i’ll be leaving my new UK one behind and just buy a French one - easy!

We got (I thought) good deals on internet and mobile phone (and electricity) via https://en.selectra.info/. They are based in France but have folks that speak English, and who will call you back on an English phone number if need be.
