Slowly but steadily the keyboard of my phone as becoming more annoying. It likes to default to American spelling and too frequently tries to pre empt what I am writing. I type the word an it inserts what it thinks I went, this means I spend more time correcting than actually typing. Any suggestions, apart from completely turning of predictive text that actually worked better a few years back.
Type in french? ![]()
That’s your choice.
Yes it is but from memory the keyboard worked so much better just a few years ago.
Is it a touch screen (as on iPhones or most Android phones), or an actual keypad (Blackberry style)?
Either way the “keys” may be wearing out - touch screens have a coating which can wear off and make it less responsive.
Another possibility is that an old phone can’t cope as well with an updated OS and may be huffing and puffing trying to keep up, making “typing” less responsive.
Phone screens can be replaced, or it may be time for New Phone Day! ![]()
There is probably a digitiser issue as in the heat of france or just the bright sun the fingerprint failed and then other parts of the touch screen. I am thinking of ordering a new digitiser. Yes possibly time for a new phone but the current LG V60 still outperforms many except at the stupid end of the price bracket.
Have you tried the handwriting keyboard? I used it to write this message
No I haven’t, good suggestion, now the word suggestion had to be re typed 3 times as it kept adding an S making it suggestions.
with the handwriting, you use a lot of screen area for one letter so it is less sensitive to a dodgy touchscreen
Out on a pic nic, will try later along with different keyboards
I never have any need to touch the screen of my phone. ![]()
Or go on, give it a go ![]()
The reason being it does not react to touch, it obeys only the buttons. ![]()
I agree, these bloody “enhancements” are a pain in the bottom. Having tried for years we still can’t stop iCal from changing our appointments depending on the time zone we are in. So now we write the local time in the appointment description. A stone age solution to a modern day crap application. I want a “do nothing” button in iCal and other apps that think they are “smart” but are really just bullshit. As real functional enhancements become more and more difficult to find, these bullshit “enhancements” proliferate.
Have a look at BusyCal, Lord Scully - that’s what i use and IIRC it doesn’t mess about with times already entered, though it will sync with iCal if required.
From their website:
All events created in BusyCal are scheduled in local time. If your system time zone is set to Eastern time, any events you create in BusyCal are in Eastern time. When you edit / view the event, the Info Panel will always show you the original time zone the event was created in. If you travel to a different time zone, or manually change your system time zone, the events you previously created in your calendar shift to reflect the new time zone - however the Info Panel will continue to show you the original time along with the original time zone it was created under.
Fifty Yankee Bucks one-off purchase. The Mac version syncs with the iOS version, or of course you can use them standalone.
There is also a companion contacts app if you don’t want to use Apple Contacts.
Alas, the “it all just works” for iThings died with Steve Jobs.
My wife is having same keyboard issues on a totally different phone. Must be the auto incorrect
Just typing harbour in the other thread its kept writing had her, which is just ab allegation
I’ve also noticed words that I didn’t intend to write appearing sometimes in my posts. It may be a new A without much I driving the spill chucker.
I’ve found that when creating an appointment switching the iCal timezone to the place where it’s occurring keeps things in check, & means alarms happen correctly too.
Well, make sure you have the right language selected (UK English, not American) and usually a number of options will be displayed in case the phone guesses wrong.
Do you use the “glide” feature? If so concentrating on getting your finger accurately over the letters in the word that you want helps as well.
