Planting and growing bamboo

Clump forming bamboo are a well behaved delight. Evergreen, lovely sounds, easy to care for and you can get a nice dappled light. Small ones are very sweet and add a different element to borders.

On the other hand, running types of bamboo are a curse.

I have been Googling and have found some useful information.
Ours is the running type of bamboo. The runners are only a few inches below the surface. An easy method of control is to use a pickaxe to lift the runner alongside a new rhizome and cut it on the side leading from the parent plant. Deprived of its supply of energy it will not survive regular mowing.
