Power-cut and pragmatic solution like EcoFlow/ BluEtti?

Goodmorning everyone, hope you’re all doing well!
Out of curiousity, anyone experiencing a powercut at the moment?
If so, where and for which time?
What do you use as a pragmatic solution to back this up, something like an EcoFlow/ BluEtti (kind of big powerbank) so still have light etc?

Thanks for sharing your experience, I can def learn from that.
Have a good one

No powercuts here, but I am a big fan of Ecoflow power banks - I have two, a Delta 2 which I use to power a TV when I have a stand at business exhibitions, and a smaller River 3 which I use to provide juice for all the electronics on my telescope.

Fortunately haven’t had to use them for emergency power, but have found them both to be very reliable and they keep a charge well.

Also if you are so inclined you can keep tabs on them from a phone app.

The Delta 2 I got as a refurbished model from Amazon, FWIW.

Was without power for 36 hours last week and my secondhand Chinese generator kept fridges/freezers, TVs, gas central heating, internet and a couple of lights on for about 1.6 litres worth of 95 Sans Plomb an hour.

Of course, I’m super rural with just the one neighbour within earshot of a not particularly quiet petrol generator, but they didn’t mind as it was powering their fridge/freezer and internet as well.

You managed to work-out a great solution then for you and your neighbour. Thank you for sharing your own experience, really helpful

Super to hear Chris, I always find someone’s own experiences the best there is. Thank you for sharing yours, great insight and help.

Forgive me the question NotALot, may I ask in which region you are located?

Lot-et-Garonne in soaked and wind-lashed SW France.

Many thanks NotAlot :+1:

Similar to us, out for 91 hours in the end - Day2 we bought a petrol generator and kept the freezers running (having had a Thiriet delivery the day before ) It also managed to power my Starlink , TV and a few devices so we didn’t feel too isolated. Camping gaz table top stove kept us fed, Log burner was kept going all days and we are just lucky that the overnight temperatures were not too low.

My generator was probably supplying between 1,500 - 1,800 Watts for 14 hours a day for the day and a half we needed to run it.

€200 for the generator 18 months ago, €150 worth of extension reels I’ve had for years and €30 worth of 95 SP.

So call it almost €400 for almost 40kWh. I’m not seeing a battery/solar solution coming anywhere near that price point.

No that’s true. But batteries are silent and not smelly, and can be used indoors.

It depends on your wattage and run time requirements. For heavier loads and longer useage of course fossil fuel solutions win.

Thank you for sharing PeterJ. Good you were able to use the petrol generator. May I ask you if this outage was recently?

Yes, it was recent. It was storm Nils, that went across France last Wednesday evening. This resulted in us losing power from 10pm Wednesday until gone 5pm on the Sunday. I am in the North Dordogne.

Would you mind letting us know which generator you bought please, and where you got it from?

In this most recent storm ours was out for 5 days - when power returned the 6 month old heating has refused to work so now waiting for that to be fixed.

No Gennies here, had a cut from sometime during last night 'till an hour or so ago. First thing I did was light the woodburner and a little later made sure there was enough dry wood to last the day,

House is warm, I had saucepans on the cheminee so hot water to wash in and I am cooking on it this evening and will allow it to burn out during the night after I am safely tucked up in bed . :joy:

It is a Defitec 2000i - purchased from Leroy Merlin.

About a week before storm Nils, we had a minor power blip (off,on,off and back on). It blew the wall mounted electric radiator in the bedroom, pop, bang and smoke  We had just been to Leroy Merlin to buy it’s replacement before the five day power cut - it’s still in it’s box and we plan to fit over the weekend.

No power cut here when I returned home, but I have a generator that kicks in as an UPS; just need to ensure it has sufficient essence.

I test once a month and it has so far not failed.
