Thank you Pamela. I appreciate your advice. We would need to be near schools and amenities for the children. We have family in Caudies de Fenouilledes so we don't want to go to far in the opposite direction. We are living in Caudies for now so we can, like you say, have a good look around.
Hi Sally, we don't actually live in Quillan, but it was our starting point when we arrived in France. We stayed somewhere behind Montjardin and we take guests down there often, through the gorges, so we know the area well. The scenery is wonderful there and the town of Quillan has a buzz. But we both felt it was not the right place for us as even though we like the mountains, we felt a little closed in there. We were told by estate agents that you should really consider the winter sun before buying there - will you be in the shadow of the mountains on winter days - and for how long. There seem to be all the services you'll need there though with the shops, railway line, medical services, supermarkets, enough nearby villages, etc. If you have set your heart on living there I am sure you will find something, otherwise I recommend looking around a bit longer just to get the feel of some nearby areas and then see what you think. PM me if you'd like more specific information.
