Unfortunately, it’s a long slow process, fracture healing, rebuilding muscle that wasted away being bed-ridden and then gently building up being able to practice some fairly extreme yoga again and do longer more demanding walks, so she won’t be back up there for a while yet. This week she’s started to be able to do the bridge pose, but has to be very careful and not push things too hard. Weekly kiné, twice daily dog walking, daily light weight work and gentle yoga - it’s a full day’s work!
Gigi was actually the first of us to recover, she just had slight spinal bruising and within a couple of weeks was thankfully back to normal.
Re the painting suggestion, thanks but after several years of painting reflections she got bored with the subject. Since then we’ve had maize fields and fallen leaves. The next thing might be French cakes - still at the experimental stage and it may just be an excuse to buy lots of macarons - but at least they might help her put on weight…
Often a good photograph doesn’t lead to a good painting, because the painting needs to do so much more to be ‘better’ than the photograph (and by that I don’t necessarily mean more realistic). It needs some extra quality that isn’t present in the original image. Conversely, many great paintings have had their origins in unpromising, or technically deficient photographic material. Even with photorealism, the strongest work will have a gap or distance between the painting and its source image.
Thanks for the update DrMarkH. Such a pity that she has so much more to get back now to get back to her previously exceptional physical level. And all because of some daft 80 year old that did a stupid manoeuvre on the road that hit your car.
I really hope she’ll make it back to her previous level of fitness and wish her every strength to do so.
What did the police decide to do with the driver that caused it?
The police asked us if we wanted to press charges and we said << Bien sur ! >> (or something similar). They then told us it should be straightforward because of their documentation and measurements of the final positions of the two cars, so they would now call her in for interview and refer the case to a magistrate.
We’re currently massively out of pocket with post-accident expenses and having to buy a replacement car, but may have to wait as long as a year for reimbursement!
There’s a dispute over the value of our car and we’ve had to hire an independent valuer who’s finally going to look at it this week. The original valuation was thousands out - it was a top spec car and they wouldn’t raise their original price, even when we provided lots of similar egs from the same year and proof that it had a new clutch fitted just a few weeks before the accident.
That looks fabulous - makes me wish I were somewhere other than the cool, damp British countryside today. I know that view and am glad to see it like this.

Another Sunday walk along the Lot to the auberge in the next village, but we’re walking in the afternoon now because the south bank doesn’t get the morning sun in Dec and Jan. But at this time of year the afternoon sunshine can be so mellow and golden…
