I too think it is great that kids are reducing plastic… but how does that make Red Nose Day out of date … ???
It was always about having fun and raising money for those who needed help… surely, that can never go out of date… (OK in a perfect world… but, sadly, not ours )…
It’s unfortunate that the Tories regard any mention of poverty in the UK on Red nose day as a pro left campaign. Still that was Nigel Evans and he’s an idiot.
Also I was talking to my sister yesterday who has a friend with a lot of problems. This friend relies on food banks but is only allowed to use them 3 times a year. She has been once this year so now has to try and manage for a while.
I was shocked and it just proves what a state the world is in when even charity is conditional!
In a similar vein Teresa, a couple of weeks ago it was a Resto de Coeur day where shoppers contribute by donating items to the less fortunate in a foodbank .Most of the supermarkets had R de C presence so I wonder how many of us made a contribution to help the less fortunate in our community ?
Well unfortunately I missed that. I usually buy a couple of extra items whether in the Uk or France if there is a collection taking place. I like to get some chocolate for the children, everyone needs a treat.
Yes Stella, we used to help out in the Limousin and i’ll be hoping to help the group in my new area when things calm down a bit after the move etc.
The branch in the Haute Vienne receives a full monthly pallet of ham from Madrange who have their factory in Limoges.
I have a system for the RDC and the SP, I generally buy things in multiples and gradually make up a box with a variety of things and drop it off when it is full.
Also if we go anywhere with a lycée packed lunch we can’t give untouched stuff back to the kitchens so I take it to a local sdf shelter or the SP/RDC on my way home in the evening, it is stuff like those tinned tuna salads, pâté in a tin, packets of crisps, drinks in bricks, and then perishables like baguettes and fruit etc etc.
I always give to Resto de Coeur and similar when it occurs. Because of my shopping patterns I sometimes find myself giving two or three times on the same weekend but as all in a good cause I do not mind.
I was interested to read of the lady whose trips to UK food banks are limited to three times a year. We have a friend here in Brittany who goes every Tuesday. Does it vary that much between countries? I would have thought it on a ‘needs must’ basis.
Yes, usually in the UK how many vouchers you get depends on your personal situation. There is a core element that is for crisis supply, so a could just be a one-off situation where a person/family needs support for a few days while a the first salary payment or benefit payment comes through, However some families need more as they can’t manage at all, so could be assessed as needing to go once a week, month or every three months. My sister is a voluntary adviser for CAB and she says one of the nice bits is being able to give people vouchers.
