RIP Ted the dog in Gone fishing

Just the look of his little mouth in Gone Fishing with Paul Whitehouse and Bob Mortimer, made me want to give him a big cuddle. Lovely underbite, so endearing in dogs and humans. Who will win Employee of the Year at their award ceremonies now?

In the summer of 1972 for my end of year first year BA Fine Art exhibition, I presented two Miminalist paintings of white canvases, one with three horizontal black stripes and one vertical, and another with three vertical black stripes and one horizontal. Alongside them was a photograph of what appeared to be the two paintings being exhibited in a ‘white box’ gallery (actually a bare white-walled store room in M/c Poly) and next to this was a spoof press cutting review of my ‘New Lines’ exhibition. Lastly, susupended from a nail hammered in the wall, was a hairy piece of old twine and a bit of chewed-up old plank on which was scrawled in black charcoal, the words ‘gone fishin’.

None of this was well-received and I also had to explain why I’d had an exhibition without permission and why I wasn’t present to be interviewed about my presentation…

However, many years later, when head of a university art school, I longed for students like that…

Didn’t know that he had written a book. What a clever boy he was. It won’t be the same programme without him in it.

I’m currently watching the programme start to finish for the 3rd time. Bloody funny show! Ted was definitely the star of it, followed by Bob falling over.

I’m only on series 2 so will have to wait until series 3 to get my Ted fix.

Does anyone know if he ever found his briefcase….?
