What sort of thing gets 9 million views Kirstea? And presumably that repeats each time they come out with something new?
Did like them very much in the 80’s, together with The Cult
Spot on!
Naw, this was a different lot - much earlier and all female (well sort of…)
I have a very slender claim to Goth fame by having been in the same BAe apprentice intake as The Field Of The Nephilim’s drummer.

OK? So can anyone out there beat that with an even more slender claim to fame (Goth or otherwise)?
I played the same stage as Guvna B (albeit consecutive nights), which you may feel stretches the idea of “tenuous” beyond breaking-point.
I was given an impromptu guitar lesson by Rory Gallagher before he was widely known. I pretty much gave up the guitar at that point…
I was in the same class at GS as the younger sister of the girlfriend of Radio Luxemburg DJ, Tony Prince and through him, we got to listen to a pre-release copy of the Beatles’ The White Album.
Fortunately, one has to delve very deep into memory for these significant trivialities
Went to school with someone who hung out with the Rolling Stones before they were famous - is that tenuous enough?
I really can’t compete with that !
Tenuous!
I had an apprentice who went to school with and lived next door to one of the 2 female singers in Phil Oakey’s Human League.
Many years ago was staying at the Imperial Hotel in Blackpool and the labour party happened to be there on thier conference weekend.
I shared a lift to the first floor with Jonathan Dimbleby, He didn’t even said hello.
I played on stage at the Greenbelt festival at the same time as Cliff Richard. Only trouble was it was a different stage. I’ve also played in a band with Ben Castle, Roy Castle’s son. I used to work with a guy called John Tilleray who was invited by the stones to replace Brian Jones after he drowned (or so he claimed - John was a very able guitarist, gigging all over Surrey when I knew him). There’s probably a few more tucked away.
I can’t think of anywhere less likely to meet the obnoxious Russell Brand than at Greenbelt.
Check out the videos by a user called Mr Beast (but turn down your speakers before doing so). They’re not my cup of tea, but I’m not the target audience… I’m just fascinated by the viewing figures he consistently gets.
For example, he uploaded a video 5 days ago called " $1 Vs $100,000,000 Car!" and it’s already had over 95 million views. He has something like 185 million subscribers.
The videos are incredibly well made, extremely professionally recorded and edited. There’s a whole team he employs. But he can afford it as he earns tens of millions of dollars each year from the ad revenue and sponsorship deals.
This article is a bit old but I think he’s still the highest earner on YouTube: The Highest-Paid YouTube Stars: MrBeast, Jake Paul And Markiplier Score Massive Paydays
Thanks, Gareth, that’s very interesting.
As for (what little I can see of) the content, it seems literally infantile.
I just wonder what that says about the population watching and subscribing - Incredible that someone goes to all that trouble, and doubly incredible (if that’s possible ), that so many folks seem to repeatedly watch the videos! I’m all for great entertainment, but really………………
