Hi, Has anybody else just lost their free to air English channels from the Astra2 satellite. Ours just wasnt there Saturday morning. Checked various things, but can only get the signal up to 40%, 0% quality. It was fine the evening before. We live in the Perpignan area.
And a Happy New Year to you Michael. Apologies if I sounded somewhat grumpy!
Apologies David then, I read it differently, a Happy New Year David.
Michael; If you can disentangle the postings which have become mysteriously knotted together you will see that I never said that Freesat had anything to do with SKY.
#David Gay, Freesat is nothing whatsoever to do with SKY it is jointly owned by ITV and the BBC, and is in competition with Sky.

Freesat is a free-to-air digital satellite television joint venture between the BBC and ITV plc, serving the United Kingdom. The service was formed as a memorandum in 2007 and has been marketed since 6 May 2008. Wikipedia
Sounds very technical to me - all I can say is that the TV cable (TNT via an aerial) is seperate from the satellite cable, except, of course, they go into the same TV.
just wondered if its wired the french way, all french channels used to be on the same part of the satellite eg all on horizontal high for example. that is why many french receivers had a if output so you could daisy chain them.
french wiring diagrams still show this method with combiners combining both the tv and satellite to multiple outputs on one coax system
if this is the case then if the coax screen is broken to one receiver then the return path may well be via the tv, especially if it is a tv which has the possibility to power a mast head amp or a large tv withIEC 3 pin connector with earth such as panasonic
Hi, Brian,
Thanks for the quick reply. I agree with you -that's why it took so long to trace. One of the tuners does have a slightly unstable signal. If I leave that on, but disconnect the TV, the signal goes in the other tuner! I do have an old tuner that I could plug in - I'll try it soon, and report back.
yes - I agree with 'Brian English' - makes no sense otherwise.
Finally solved this problem - the gite's TV! We have a satellite with a double-exit head, one for the gite, one for us, with a tuner box in each house. At first I thought it might be because the cable in the back of gite box was loose, because before, I had worked out that both cables had to be connected to tuners. Now it seems that as well as that, the TV should be plugged into the mains, but not actually on. Anybody else had the same problem, or even an explanation?
oh yes, I fully understood that, it just interests me all the nonsense that goes on .....strangely enough there are enough 'streamlining' sites particularly for sports, mainly sky sports, so that will do me. I love Cricket but have never been able to watch it till recently (which suits my wife, an American) - now all I have to do is get up at around 2am to watch England getting thrashed.....again...! Or some soccer match....but why oh why,for free but - only on the pc...! http://www.coolsport.tv/skysports2.html
Ours started playing up in Herault so we moved onto Tooway. Now we have access to everything, IPlayer, Lovefilm, Now TV, itv player. Hardly ever watch live tv anymore. It's fab. James has a link on SFN if you search for Tooway. I highly recommend it for TV streaming and internet.
for the date, see my link above.
Haven't been in UK for around 40 years and fuel allowances didn't exist! Re TV - so how comes the UK traders here in France can offer these services?
Here is an interesting link......http://oneworlddreaming.perso.neuf.fr/

Wow - it's all so sorted out and easy!
Lost a couple of channels Saturday but in fact they were there BBC1 was missing from the schedule program list but went to BBC2 then scrolled up and it was there but not showing on the program list, does that make sense, channel 5 has returned, when is the sat change over due to be anyone know we are in the bottom of 81 in the Montagne Noire
in the Gard (30) and Herault(34) - no problems....!
To be honest, I'm fed up with British attitudes. We're members of a club, the EU, but we want to run it - health, wealth, defence and now entertainment. I am in the Gard (30) and have no problem a. because it rarely rains, never snows and b. Because I speak German and have had the German Satellite which provides me with DOZENS of FREE TV channels and c. because via my SFR Internet box, I have most films etc in the VO (Version Originale-a question of arranging your TV!) and d. I have FREE SAT, which I don't watch a lot because old films are not my scene......BUT - I object strongly, in these days of 'Europe' to the fact that Sky do not allow you to subscribe to their programmes, although I know so many people here in France who are subscribed via family members in UK, and I have the addresses of quite a few dealers who offer sale/installation of SKY, both new and used terminals, with SKY subscriptions arranged by them - for a price, of course!
About time the Brits got it sorted out, but they are too busy trying to get everybody to pay for A&E, irrespective of where you come from.
Please, please, UK-stay forever out of the Euro system! Scotland will of course, be welcome!
just checked. I still have everything apart from the whole channel 5 set, which i lost over a year ago.
I'm in the Conflent.
The most likely cause is the dish has moved, however check for any loose connections, water in cable etc. if you are lucky you will be the old clamp position on the pole. It is possible to realign the dish using the signal strength on the box and as the dish has probably only moved in the horizontal plain it might be quite simple
Freesat from SKY (fsfs) is part of SKY but Freesat is NOT.
I was asking as Freesat boxes self tune to any new frequencies but I cannot say whether SKY boxes do or whether it needs to be done by the owner. I am still using a 60 cm dish in the Dordogne and signal strength and quality remained the same or improved slightly when channel 5 and its components moved to ASTRA 2F earlier this year. BBC and ITV will move to ASTRA 2E when it is in position and has been tested. The transmission footprint is the same as 2F so if you can get channel 5 etc now, you should hopefully have no problems later when the Beeb etc move to 2E.
