Yes people in Brittany are so close to England that the signal is so good as to be considered "a English quality" signal as the distance is so short in relative terms. Remember that the signal is a squashed "sausagey" shape that is not coming from right above Blighty, rather from the right looking down from space. They do this by refractors on the transmitter array whch are designed to focus the signal more. Compare this to INMARSAT satellites which are designed to flood the whole of their viewed area with signal, so that no matter where you are in the footprint, you can up and down link, you will see that SKY and ASTRA seek to limit the beam as much as technically possible, though with smaller nets you can always fish more fish out the sea, as much as you can grab more stray signals with a bigger dish. This is why Jodrell Bank is so enormous.

No probs. here in Brittany even though it's blowing a hooley & hissing down. Probably 'cause we're closer to Blighty than most:-)
I had to get up the ladder on Christmas day, due to the wind rearranging the dish. The weather had been playing havoc with the freesat signal for a few days.
All signals fine for me in the Lot but I lose weaker signals (like Classic FM) a bit in heavy rain. It soon dries off.
Hi Peter, we live in the Perpignan area too and our reception is fine. Our signal goes occasionally and I have always found turning the box off and on works (unplugging it).
Good luck
All good here in the Tarn dept 81, only tile we have a little problem if very heavy rain, or on the odd occasion lots of snow then I have to clear it with the cobweb duster!!!! good luck
People very far south should realise that they are on the fringes of a signal that is not even directed at them, so a bigger dish is required, attentuation occurs when the heavy cloud and moisture content filters out the already weak signal from a signal that is not even directed at them. For more information refer to SKYs satellite coverage map. It might interest all members to note that SKY does not have license to broadcast UK TV outside the UK which is why they have done all they can to make their signal as un-attainable as they can. You are advised to not to ring them and complain. For instance, my cousin who lives in Granada, further south than Perpignan has a 1.5m dish. People in France who are messing around with 60cm dishes are not doing it right and should really do the job right once and for all and put a bigger dish out in the garden somewhere. As David Gay wrote - alright now the rain has gone.

Bad weather Lots of rain. no signal. Alll right now .
Secondly there is no difference between SKY and Freesat - it all comes over the same satellites and the same Simcard subscription - Freesat is a department within SKY that is just occupied with the free delivery of a certain number of channels as required by SKY's licence. Through signal hashes sent with the pictures are instructions to allow your SIMcard only access to show the free types of channels. Should you wish to upgrade, the command is sent via the uplink back down to all SIMcards England wide, all of which ignore it except for your SIMcard. So the comment made above "are you on SKY or Freesat " is invalid. The equipment is merely filtering out the premium packages, to give you the basic Freesat package.

Tell the kids that Rudolph and the gang were flying across the sky with Santa and his sleigh when they accidently knocked into the Astra satellite. Hence no TV until new Years day when the elves satellite emergency team come back to work. The TV over Christmas has been rubbish anyway (apart from Last Tango in Halifax).

This is weird, (cue music from X files) but we just lost our signal in middle of BBC 1 news. Did a full reinstall and it is back. We have had problems with the EPG for several weeks but it too, has now returned. Are they changing something on the satellite?
Hi, are you on sky or freesat? There have been no changes to satellite recently, as Astra 2E is still not in position so try doing a full retune of your system. Have you had high winds recently which may have moved your dish out of alignment. Best of luck!
