"The Republic of Ireland should consider rejoining the Commonwealth as the British Queen celebrates her Diamond Jubilee, Ulster Unionist Party leader Tom Elliott has said". This statement has been widely covered. To read the full article, here is the link to the Irish Independent on line version:

What are your thoughts?
Irish news is like any other state sponsored news... only they do a worse job of covering up the bias and corporate interest
Just as well you did read it Sheila - forewarned is forearmed!!
Clearly the Irish News is setting itself up to become the "Daily Mail" of Ireland (the one thing we don't need).
I know, Norah! That's what stopped me in my tracks. AND, he is a member of the UUP! I have actually stopped reading Irish news because mostly, in my opinion, they love to dwell on bad news, but a friend had posted the link, so I read it.
I think the man must be on something!!! What has the jubilee of the Queen of England to do with Ireland? Are we to join something to celebrate the King of Spain's jubilee when it arrives? And then, of course, there is the Dutch Royal family and the Norwegians, the Swedes, the Danes and the Grimaldis................... There won't be any time to run Ireland at that rate!!!
For me, it's a no. How does the Queen's celebration suddenly bring this into play??
