Had to wear a mask at the dechetterie this morning despite being outside and no one within 10 metres, next door at Lidl mask wearing no longer obligatory and even the staff have stopped wearing them, bonkers.
Ideally “not at all” and everyone to be in a cabin.
All cabins closed!
That… makes little sense ?!?
I think, when I do come over, it might be the tunnel.
We don’t normally bother - it takes about the same amount of time but involves about twice the driving with no break (180 vs 130 on the UK side, then 370 vs 170 on the French side) and there’s always the security issues at Calais to consider.
But if the ferries are going to close the cabins and force me to mix with other passengers in an enclosed space for 7 hours, I’d rather be in my own car with it providing a degree of isolation for the much shorter tunnel crossing.
Yes agreed, I should have clarified I am talking DFDS, Newhaven Dieppe.
They are seriously reducing the number of passengers to ensure sufficient space.
No foot passengers.
I would guess it’s the sanitising of the cabins each way which has lead to closing them.
Sense has no place in any of this Paul. And has been so from the start. It’s what’s expedient. It’s what poorly managed companies can just about cope with, It’s about poor political decisions and a refusal to acknowledge how poor those decisions have been all down the line.
There is very depressing programme which was on Channel 4 last night from the Dispatches team. If you can, see it in catch up to really see how little sense there has been right from the word go.

To be honest I don’t expect it to - certainly not where the UK government is concerned.
@anon88169868 The interesting thing about common sense - it’s not so common.
I booked a cabin for our crossing on Briittany Ferries. It was obligatory. Do you have a link to the closures? Is this only for DFDS? I can’t find anything on a general search.
I already clarified that point in the same thread.
We have always said about our daughter, brain as big as a planet, but very little common sense.
Fortunately, with her planet brain she is now able to use experience as her guide.
My android phone tells me the Channel 4 app needed to view is “not available in your country”!
So there!

Hello Peter, you need a VPN (virtual private network) so they don’t recognise where YOUR country is and thinks it’s the UK.
Do you get UK TV via satellite? And can you record programmes? If so, it’s being shown again on Tuesday at 2.20am on 4seven.
Thanks Sue. Useful info. I’m a techy geek.
Roger I SO agree! That is agony.
Not compared to having your neck knelt on for 30 minutes.
A different approach where Google is your friend using AR
Fine Graham, but how does it stop someone else barging into my space? I don’t have a problem with MY social distancing. I said very early on I would be much happier being 2 meters away from the other person that only the one meter here in France. But it’s impossible to control other people. I’ve just spent lunchtime ducking and diving my way round Leclerc. I did wonder if I just walked round singing very loudly that might frighten people off?
