Maybe should be posted in the Cheerful News part but this is cheerful for me…
Just completed re-erecting the scaffolding and hope to finish the repairs to the stonework and re-pointing in a month or so.. (all in lime of course)

Now that is truly a labour of love. Bonne continuation.
It will be worth it. Bon courage. ![]()
Hope you tied your scaff tower into the wall?
Have you got some sack cloth etc to slow down the chaux cure as it looks like the wall is bathed in sunshine?
Of course
…tied back and I have loads of hemp cloth too….It is mechanically tied back every 2 m…(overkill I know but I love tying the frame into the wall…
)
What is the lime mortar recipe?
3:1
On this house, I go 50/50 Melange/Masonry Sand and the lime is St Astier NHL3.5.
3 sand 1 lime and I use melange because some of the voids between the stones a very wide and I have also tried to match the original filler which looks like river gravel, sand and crushed schist.
The reveals I render with masonry sand and lime but don’t use a fine enduit sand as a top coat…too refined for this rough rag-tag of buildings once used as a silk farm.
The stone is schist and laid in random rubble. Some of the facades were rendered too which is unusual for this area on a building that was once a silk farm…guess they made a few pennies to be able to afford it.
I’m sure you asked the same question last year ![]()

Look forward to updates! Why is the stripe under the ridge been done and now where you are,? Or were the darker stripes done first?
…yes, it was asked before but all ok ![]()

Ummmm…I’m having to do the job in 2.5 m wide vertical strips but ideally, I would move along sequentially but on this façade, I need to tackle the worst parts first and then I’ll come back and complete the jigsaw…I’m working on this current part because she recently had new windows fitted and I need to finish the work around the frames…. including all the stonework to the ground.
Here’s a close up of the stonework after cleaning it out: (it’s all grouted up now)…not very exciting perhaps but it’s lovely being up on the scaffold in the sunshine with nothing else but birdsong for company:)
I’ll send more photos later for sure.
