Today Meteo France placed around 30 French departments on orange alert, from the Landes (40) in the South West to the Ardennes (08) dept in the North East.
The storm warning began at 4pm Friday afternoon and remains in effect for 24 hours.
Our self-build neighbours arrived just before 2200. I went to warn them but they saw that there was not as much as a leaf rustling in the trees. Within half an hour there was a brisk breeze, by 2300 it blew hard. It came to nothing, not even distant thunder or a glimpse of lightning.
Listening to the radio this morning, within half an hour there had been heavy rain, hail had badly damaged a roof and conservatory in Perigueux and in Exicideuil, which is about an hour away, major stuff.
Rosemary put a search in on http://france.meteofrance.com/ to which you add local details such as your village or postcode.
Thank you for the timely warning, it wasn’t mentioned on any other forecast we look at and the storm hit at 12,40 this morning. Thanks to the warning anything that could fly away was battened down! Is there a way that we can get a direct link from the meteo site to our computers?
Last night we were in a night market in Levignac with dancing and food...so there for 3 hours plus. The wind started getting up around 9pm....it was greatly appreciated as stifling, hot, humid was not a good mix with the dancing! on the drive home around 10.30 we had constant lightening, sheet and fork all around us on our drive back to Eymet. Had to run around the house on our return and pin back or lock the shutters as some were banging in the high winds. Was delighted and looking forward to a good downpour...which didnt occur! cloudy today...temps lover...no wind and no sign of rain...we are off to a quiz at Chaters Vineyard tonight, sitting outside to eat as well..hope the rain stays off for the evening...
Getting windy here near St Foy la Grande (24)...27c...35c this afternoon...magnificent cloud formations and several storms around...but none over us...and I do love a good storm with lashings of rain to clear the air.
I'm a bit like Glen - I know darned well if I'm not prepared it'll be chaos. If I prepare it seems to do a putt putt fizz. It's been very breezy all day in the Haute Vienne but has suddenly started quieting down . Calm before the storm or storm in a teacup?
a bit scary and they got it right at the weekend.... Saturday we were warned of winds, rain and thunder!!!! and they got it spot on, this wind and rain came through our garden taking the gazeebo down and throwing furniture all over the place, it lifted a scaffolding youngman and threw straight through the conservatory window!!!!!, next door lost numerous trees and the roof on there barn!!!
I won't get too excited, I love a good storm, but I've found that the vigilance alerts (as in the UK) have become a little over the top lately, and often flop. We shall see. There's very little going on anywhere, at the moment.
