One of our electric bedroom shutters suddenly decided to open last night. No human intervention (we have a battery-powered remote control, but it’s on the wall).
Any ideas what might have caused this?

Bed Bugs ![]()
Probably the same aliens that caused your VW GPS to go on the blink.
Have you seen the documentary “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”? ![]()
Other than that, maybe a momentary power spike or outage triggered it? Although there would probably be other evidence if it was that, such as the oven clock resetting itself.
Divine intervention ![]()
A very big spider, or rat ran across the button?
It might have been a rat, but he’d have had to abseil down from the ceiling. Since the remote control is on Madame’s side of the bed, I don’t think I’m going to pass that one on
but the idea amused me
Battery beginning to fail in the remote control, usually at night as it gets colder. Our smoke alarms always seem to decide to beep at night !
Ummmm…
I like to think you saw that article 8 years ago and thought, “Hmm, one day that will be useful.”
Sadly no, it’s just my usual resort to Google in search of relevant nonsense.
I thought this was going to be a camera problem.
As to shutters randomly opening - glitch in the matrix.
De blind leading de blind?
What’s it’s default position? Power outage and they open or close or not make any difference?
The remote control is battery-operated. I don’t think this blind is solar-powered, but if there’s no power it stays as it was.
So presumably it picked up a signal from somewhere. I used to have some cars go past my house that must have badly suppressed ignition and used to switch on a light.
Ghosts ![]()
Definitely! So much more obvious than the big spider or rat!!!
Very posh, I couldn’t possibly comment, only having the manual version ![]()
Have ghosts closed those to?
I bet you have a valet to open them, before he lays out your clothes ![]()
We used to have those electric roller shutters on our house. They also had battery powered remote switches for each shutter. Every time we had a power failure, they would behave erratically and close or partially close. Some were for big windows and if we had the power off for any length of time, we would be plunged in darkness during the day. They also used to get confused, so for example, you would operate the remote in the kitchen and nothing would happen there, but hear one of the shutters upstairs closing. I spent many hours reprogramming them, changing all the batteries, dismantling and rolling up the external shutters by hand. Then one day I snapped and spent a few days ripping them all out and putting them on leboncoin! It was my plan to replace them with traditional wooden shutters, but eight years on, we still have none!
