Just curious - but how many members would be interested in an internet-based digital radio station themed along the lines of Survive France?
Sounds interesting, would like to know more pls Chris.
Thanks for the input. I remember a while back seeing some posts here and elsewhere about a lack of English language radio here. Of course we can access the BBC etc over the internet, but there appeared to be nothing with a local focus, something we could interact with that others living in major commercial centres or off-the-beaten-track hamlets could identify with! I have a long association with broadcast media and just love the platform. I have had friends who have drifted away from mainstream radio to online stations - regaining their independence and reconnecting with their audience. Any further comments would be most welcome... and then I will put together some sort of proposal.
I think that it's a great idea as well! Much more interactive when voice is used, my opinion anyhow. Sometimes it's hard to sieve through all the discussion updates so a short summary would be great per region etc jobs wanted for example. The options are limitless as pointed out already.
It is a very interesting idea. I already stream radio almost consistently whether BBC Radio 4, BBC World Service, Deutschlandfunk, RFI or whatever. I find it a wonderful medium, prefer it to TV in fact. There is always room for more. So I had a think whilst doing walkies with the dogs in the pi**ing rain.
SFN is not only English language members although it is the language primarily used on the site. A 'space' for Dutch speakers, for instance, could be a boon if the radio and SFN are closely linked, helping to grow the membership. Also, and here I might have you ready to club social scientists to death, but being one of those it strikes me that this is in the wrong place on the site as a discussion, notwithstanding the relies and comments. If it is technically possible, this would be best dealt with by a survey. That is to say that a questionnaire of even as few as half a dozen questions such as: 1. Do you think SF Radio is a good idea? (with an instruction that if the respondent is against not to answer other questions), 2) What would you like to have on such a radio station?....
It would take a group of us to devise the appropriate questions and also does not matter how many people respond. It would also be a good excuse for reminding 'passive' members that SFN is here. I would happily volunteer my services for compilation of returns and any analysis required.
However if you think I am a prat for suggesting that or it is technically too difficult then say so. As Fidi points out, particular advertisers might be a great benefit. Given spots to tell us what they are 'selling' in detail even rather than conventional quickies.
So that's my thoughts. Now to see how it develops!
Hello,
I am not in France but I think it sounds interesting as long as it does not take away from the SFN site itself!
So many things you can do, and so many people you can reach!
Prime air time for hand picked advertisers will be a great benefit to all members...
I'm interested Chris, what have you got in mind?
An interesting idea. How would you envisage it running and who would run it? Could members contribute in real time?
I would support it.
