Does anyone have any useful web links for us to take a look and get some indication of how these taxes are estimated? We know that they vary from region to region, and town to town, but wondered if there was any information we could obtain before going to the authorities to ask questions about ours? Any help would be much appreciated!

taxe d'habitation varies widely and also depends on your earnings. Taxe foncière varies too and there's no real guide, you have to ask property by property. Basically it's usually more in town than rural and it's more on newer places than older ones but these are rough rules of thumb!
