I sold my house in May 2024 but I have received a Taxes Foncieres bill recently. I contacted the Notaire who looked after the sale and she told me that I must pay it. There was a payment from the new owners at the time of sale and she said this is for the months they own the house in 2024, I thought it was for what I had already paid. So are the Taxes Foncieres billed retrospectively? And can I excpect a bill for Tax D’Habitation for the part of 2024 that I owned the house? I do not own another property in France.
This is my understanding (recently sold and bought).
You pay the TF for the year, the new owners would have paid you their proportion already as part of the sale.
For the TdH, as you were the owner on the 1st of January, you pay the whole year.

Yes, TF is retrospective so you pay.
When you lived there was it your second or holiday home and registered as such on your espace particulier “biens immobilier” page? If so then the TH is due, and if the people who bought the house are using it as a principle home then they won’t contribute.
Thanks Jane - that makes sense.

Thank you Mark, hopefully after the TdH that will be the end of my bills!
