Teaching English in France

Hi everyone,

I'm going into my third year at uni at the moment, where Im studying French and Spanish. I've recently had a change of heart, as I had plans to go to Spain to teach English for my year abroad, but after a really enjoyable gap year teaching near Nantes, I've been thinking more and more about going back to France.

I've emailed a lot of schoosl since first thinking back to this, but of the ones that have come back to me, a lot of them either already have recruited English assistants or have asked me to apply to be an assistant via the CIEP organisation in France, where applications have unfortunately already closed for this coming year.

If anyone has any tips or advice on finding a possible school where I could find work as an English assistant from September or October onwards, I would be extremely grateful. Thanks so much! (When I was Googling English assistant jobs in France earlier, I came across a similar thread on this site where somebody had asked a similar question a couple of years ago, so I would really appreciate it if anyone at all was on hand to help :) )

Thanks again,

Emily

I wrote to over 150 before getting a result! I worked at St Ilan, near Langueux, St Brieuc in the Côtes d'Armor. Had an offer from another school in St Brieuc, lycée chaptal if I remember correctly. And the other was in Montauban de bretagne.

I also worked as an assistant at Lycée Emile Duclaux in Aurillac.

Bonne chance ;-)

Thanks so much for your help with this, Andrew. Would you mind passing on the details of any schools that you applied to if possible please? I've tried quite a few in different areas and cities, but I haven't had any luck yet.

I was too old for the standard scheme when I did my degree so I had to find my own placement. I wrote to all the various private schools (cneap) in the areas I was interested in, had three offers and took one of them. The pay was half the standard scheme though :-(

I did the same once here too but this time I got the post direct with the rectorat, stroke of luck when the student who had been given the post decided not to take it!
