Actually I have remembered that my mother used to cut squares of vanilla ice cream and put it in a tall glass of ginger beer. Probably not the height of good taste but…

Ooh a ginger-beer float, must be a 50s or 60s thing as my eldest aunt used to do that.

Now then my lad… cutting squares of vanilla ice-cream… that surely goes back a bit…my parents would buy the block and cut it up to fit between wafers for us kids… yummy…

later…it was possible to buy individual small squares wrapped in wax paper…then (at the turn of the 17th century ) we had not just vanilla… but strawberry and chocolate came along as well… and sometimes my parents bought a Neapolitan block with the 3 flavours/colours together… :hugs:

Now, in the 21st century… we are almost spoilt for choice… :star_struck:

Must have made a comeback in the 70s

Let’s face it… good things never really go out of style… :sunglasses:

I’m sure I can remember waxed paper wrapped rectangular slices of vanilla ice sandwiched between wafers at the theatre. And rectangular slices of vanilla ice dipped in chocolate.

I have great memories of the blackberry picking trips with my family
we would pick in Roehampton and then the berries would be turned
into wonderful things like pie, jam, compot and best of all the wine…
so delicious.
Ginger has so many great uses and, of course is so good for us.
I also dream of good ice cream made with rich cream and vanilla
pods. Why is the ice cream here in France so sweet and horrid?
I know what you are going to say…make it yourself then.
Well would need to buy a decent machine and masses of cream…
which I would have to get sent over from waitrose…the only good cream
which I could buy is no longer available.
The producers were Pechalou and I asked them why they stopped it…
they would not tell me why.
Their yoghourt is very creamy and my fav flavour is raspberry
and violet.
Getting back to baking…well it is something which can be enjoyed
by people of ALL ages and it is…from kids to grannies…and it
is something the whole family can share.
Both in the making and the enjoyment of eating the end products together.

I wonder if that yeast thingy might be similar to a ‘scoby’ which is what the kombucha yeast thingy is called… And I for one would LOVE to brew ginger beer. Or, at least, taste some home-made.

Easy peasy…
