The latest Tariff saga and currency movement…

Indeed it was. I actually did a benchmark Z80 vs 65C11 vs 6809. It involved code to do BTLZ compression. I write the code assembler code all three and the 6809 was about 30% faster than the 65C11 which was about 20% faster than the Z80. The 6809 and 65C11 had the same internal clock frequency and the Z80 was twice that. One big disadvantage we had on Z80 was interrupt latency which of course didn’t figure in our BTLZ testing.

Reminds me of South America in the seventies and hyperinflation - the members of staff would be walking round the store changing the price tags as we shopped! :open_mouth:

Same in London

I thought the guitarist was good.

I watched but didn’t listen to Trump’s recent surprise cabinet meeting, with the intention of later writing down the praise each member of the cabinet would give him. I bet they were quaking in their shoes waiting their turn to speak with the press crammed behind them with their cameras and microphones. Trump was clearly testing their loyalty the day after Liberation/Tariff Day.

I didn’t have to listen to them speak, happily. I was certain I’d feel nauseous while doing so. Musk was there as well.

Mr. Newberger’s AI Funnies have done their own version.

I might still record what each of his cabinet said – I did hear some of it which was nauseous . One of them applauded Trump saying something like they were one big happy family.

Ugh, funny but too real, just as well I had a lie in this morning, (BBC4 late night film, seen before but forgot the ending ), otherwise I would have brought my breakfast all back up over the keyboard.

I’ll be ok in a minute. Just as well I baled out halfway through though.

Grrrrrrr (site doesn’t like that on it’s own but yes, fighting talk). Back in the day, early eighties, I was JCB Microsystems doing sound and speech addons for Dragon and Com 64. I did some work with tge Spectrum for the guy who did the original Football Manager, it was a serial link to move stuff from the Spectrum to (can’t remember now :slightly_frowning_face:). Of the machines I worked with I liked the 6809 best (Dragon) but the C64 best as a machine. The Spectrum was always a pain in the proverbial with its silly keyboard etc… Shoot me

I have one in the sous sol :sunglasses:

For what it’s worth, these are Trump’s cabinet members doffing their caps the day following Liberation/Tariff Day.

I’ve cut Trump out of this video - CNN has fact checked his words and you can guess what they said.

I was surprised to hear about fraudulent payments from one of the cabinet members, e.g. “25,000 people over 115 years of age are collecting 59 million dollars of aid”. My own fact check - this stems from a 2015 audit about a massive failure to keep death records updated. No fraud.

And “28,000 people born between 1 and 5 years of age have collected fraudulent payments to the tune of 254 million dollars” & “10,000 people who have not been born yet, fifteen years into the future, received 69 million dollars and they haven’t even been born yet. And one case, born 129 years from now, is sent 41 thousand dollars.”

And so on….!

Depends. I read recently some of the Blue Zone statistics are proving to be very suspect. The parts of the world where it is claimed people live longer are also those where: people are less well educated, record keeping is poor (absence of birth certificates for example), relatives tend to be impoverished (so it’s useful to go on collecting granny’s state pension and not mention she died 15 years ago). So there may be fraud, if the latter.

There’s probably some fraud, insignificant & significant, everywhere.

But in this case “Every Inspector General for the last 30 years has concluded that the level of fraud at Social Security is actually less than one half of one percent”, said at Biden’s disability speech (MSNBC) a few hours ago.

I think I’d rather go along with that, than Trump’s DOGE + Department of Labour, claiming major social security fraud, sufficient enough to have to announce it to the world - to MAGA world!

The 'fraud" claims are just an excuse to cut social security programs.

Same as all the Republican claims of “voter fraud” (which is actually miniscule in the US and most Western countries) - they are an excuse to “tighten voter laws” which have the effect of disenfranchising poorer people who often don’t have driving licences, passports or the other “approved” forms of ID, and who overwhelmingly vote Democrat.

The Republicans are scared of the changing demographics in the US which in the long term would make them unlikely to win the Presidency or get a majority in Congress.

Trump’s latest win was essentially a “blip”, where Biden got the blame for the inflation that hung over from Trump’s first term and Covid, and of course the poor strategy of the Democrats in not putting Harris (or someone else) on the ticket early enough, and not making clear where the “rise in the price of eggs” originated from.

But the way it’s going, with a compliant Congress and Supreme Court apparently willing to give Trump whatever he wants, the USA may well be into “banana republic” President for Life territory before the next elections fall due.

They are already there.

Trump has effectively indicated that his administration has the ability and willingness to deport anyone, for any reason, on (if you’ll excuse the pun) trumped up charges to an El Salvadorian internment camp where the only way out for inmates is in a body bag.

He has also started making noises about a third or even a fourth term

Who now has the power to stop him?

Sure as heck is not the Republican Party

Death!

Trump’s latest medical report was as obviously bogus as the previous ones - what doctor would mention ‘frequent victories in golf events’ in a medical report?

This was Trump’s previous personal physician (now deceased) who wrote that, “Trump will be the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency.”

At which point JD takes over and a whole lot of not much happens.

I think Vance is far more dangerous, unless he fails to inherit Trump’s support.

It might not matter
