The meeting between the Taoiseach and Trump today

It’s be interesting to see how it goes. He’s the first leader to enter the Charnel House since Zelenskyy’s defenestration. Hopefully the fact that Ireland has the second largest trade imbalance with the US (€50bn) won’t come up. Notwithstanding that the bulk of that is US companies exporting back to the US. Plus it’s day one of the EU US trade war. If worst comes to worst Micheál should just drop the bowl of shamrock and run.

  • Mr Martin is due to attend a breakfast meeting with US vice-president JD Vance at around 8.30am US time.
  • He will then head for the Oval Office to meet Mr Trump at 11am. He will speak to the media when the event concludes at around 11.45am.
  • The Fianna Fáil leader will attend the US Friends of Ireland congressional luncheon at 1pm (5pm Irish time).
  • Then, at around 4pm (8pm Irish time), Mr Martin and Mr Trump will take part in the traditional Shamrock Ceremony the White House.
