The new Useful Links

Well, not that new actually. However, if you look at Useful Links (see the link at top of page) you will find there's a new page called Emergency! or It's an emergency... (depends whether you use the drop-down menu or the clickable index page). Either way it takes you to the same page.

This new page gives you immediate access to a lot of important emergency numbers, starting with the medical emergency number, the fire brigade and police. There's also a list of emergency phone numbers to call if you need to block your bank or credit card because you've lost it, it's been stolen or someone else has got your PIN.

I've added contact numbers for some embassies and consulates and other things which are not really emergency numbers but are useful nonetheless like airports, airlines, ferries and the tunnel.

And last but not least, there are links to French utility companies.

All of these numbers are also repeated on different pages -- the bank numbers are at the start of Finance, for example.

I have done my best to make sure that all these numbers are correct but they can change and if anybody finds an error I'd be grateful for a heads-up in the comment section.

On the subject of comments, it's not a good idea to use them as a way to start a new discussion as very few people will be following these pages. If you want to raise an issue, ask a question or seek advice about health, finance, property and so on, it's best to start a new general discussion which will be seen by everyone.

So use the comments section on the UL pages solely for comments on the content of those pages. One such comment recently alerted me to the fact that the link in Property to a list of local SPANC offices (they deal with septic tanks!) no longer worked. In fact, I found out that the whole SPANC set-up apparently changed this month. So I've rewritten that section. If anyone has any recent first-hand knowledge of the effect of the changes I'd appreciate your comments.

What else? Ah, yes. If anyone's wondering where the Pets page went, it's been "demoted" to a sub-section of the Miscellaneous page. We are restricted in the number of pages we can put up and the emergency numbers seemed more important than advice on importing pets.
