The weather!

I used to commute an hour each way to work when I lived in Florida. Instead of buying new cars constantly, I ran a small fleet of old diesels that I could work on. I had 2 VW 1.6 IDIs- a Jetta and a Rabbit pickup truck. Also a Mercedes 240D. I never bothered trying to keep the air conditioners working on them. As long as I kept moving it was tolerable.

Here in France, Ijust got my Peugeot 207 Hdi back from the shop with a new timing belt-but its aircon is broken too.

Cold water coming out of the tap this morning is very warm indeed. Never had it like that before as its usually pretty cold

After our last, ( mini), heatwave in the UK, I decided to get a , cooling blanket. Thought it was probably going to be a useless bit of tat, but for around £20 I’d give it a go.
Tried it last night and it actually works! I was much cooler with it over me. It does have a tendency to tangle round you but it can’t have bothered me too much as I did get a good, cool sleep.

Could be an interesting winter this year.

I burned myself with scalding water last week and room temperature water was about 38 degrees so no cooling effect at all even though I immediately ran water over it and kept doing it as you’re supposed to. Normally it works. It will take a lot longer to heal now.

Ow, bon rétablissement.

Keep plenty of ice cubes in the freezer this weather if like me, you don’t have a fridge that makes them to order. A couple of old face flannels too for wrapping them in

We made it home Tuesday mid afternoon after s 2 day drive from Yorkshire(so much better than the one day we used to do!) After a busy day yesterday going to the notaire for a clients signing (compromis number 2 - yay!!), then shopping, 2 trips to Bergerac for CFA for the big child I’m having a home day (well other than 2 Bergerac trips :enraged_face:). Managed outside work until about 11.15 since then I’m finding jobs in the bedroom and office upstairs which is air conditioned! I really hate this heat :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

My bedroom’s usually around 28°C but with a fan pointed at my face, programmed to switch off 2 hours later, I sleep ok, especially if I’m mildly sweating. Feel very comfortable, and the drone from the fan is soothing.

Whoops, glad I read it all in context, but it did startle me for a moment, not that I don’t know you are capable of course.

Sorry to read that - hope it heals quicker than expected.

You sleep under a blanket ? :exploding_head:. Can’t even manage a sheet here :joy:

It’s not exactly a blanket, it’s a bit thicker than a sheet, I hate night clothes but like a bit of cover. It’s no where near as hot here as France or Southern UK, but too hot for me now!

But you’re Australian?

See above :rofl::rofl:

When my plane arrived in Darwin the captain said it was hot and humid, yeah, yeah, I had spent some time on the streets of Delhi, know all about that, but when the door was opened at 3 in the morning the heat and humidity hit me like a very wet brick wall, couldn’t wait to get into the custom’s building.

Much later driving my truck, still in the Territory I had both windows open despite the scare stories about snakes being thrown up and in through them and later still I stopped in the middle of the Victoria River, threw open the door and collapsed into the water before climbing back to carry on. That was before they told me about the crocs, but I noticed my mates did the same.

Aussies, fibbers all, they make a national past time of tall stories…but are they?
