I may have missed something but this just sounds weird or worse.
Although I have given up on Guardian links and their pestering and fading out tendencies, I agree from what I see that that seems to be in the worst possible taste. Is it the family that are responsible, in order to garner a pay-off at some point?

In fairness, the headline is badly written - or devicively written.
The prediction (betting) is on a particular drug being given a green light, which yes, to those who may benefit is their medical future.
Prediction markets are really a gamblers playground that cuts out the betting shop, much as stock and commofities markets.
It is unethical to bring drugs into this realm and certainly not right to align them to what could be tragic outcomes. But, as said, life gets more weird.
