To test or not to test?

You are not in France then?

More and more the doctors now understand how to treat covid without you needing to end up in intensive care with last chance solutions. For example, if you test positive you can then keep a close eye on your oxygen saturation levels so can get oxygen treatment before it becomes critical.

The more we know about this virus, including numbers of people who have it without symptoms, the better able we will be to deal with it.

And stories from those who have had it suggest that “sitting it out” is a total understatement.

One of the big worries amongst doctors is the ‘happy hypoxics’ where patients are quite comfortable but their oxygen sats are very low

yes, i am in France.

3 friends… 2 in America, one in Basildon were positive
all had symptoms before testing positive
all had a lousy cold like symptoms, were tired and washed out for a day or two…
14 days later, one hosted her 40th birthday party!
now, it’s history and they’re back at work

they all “sat it out”

My friend Neil would have enjoyed this discussion with you, except he can’t because he died

I have another friend who has been ill for three months
Bob you seem to be basing your pronouncements on the experience of three lucky people. Frankly it is clear you know F@ck All. Remember it is better to say nothing and be thought ignorant than open your mouth and prove it

Doesn’t seem quite appropriate to have “liked” your response about Neil. I hope you understand what I mean, which is to say I completely agree with your comment.

You can have a test at our pharmacie for 25 euros.

Ours doesn’t, I did call. Our village nurses are getting trained up to do them too.

@vero @SuePJ Don’t worry I understand. Neil was one of the nicest people ever born. It was a pleasure to have known him

I’m sorry for your loss @Eddie

but… the majority of populace are not over 70, nor with asthma?
i’m the wrong side of 65, thankfully, not a “sickly” person…all my +70 friends are not “sickly” people… [well one maybe]
they are not prone to illnesses as a rule…
my sister is 64, has issues, and it now sh1t scared to leave her home for fear of dying… but the prevalence in her town is minimal…
so she’s going to stay banged up through fears… for something that is unlikely to be near her, unlikely to give her problems… let alone be hospitalised.

there is a mass hysteria whipped up by statisticians and the media…
too many people believe they will die

not the same but
when i was living in Chingford E4
i was friendly with the local PCSO, as we had problems with youths around the house.
The council, police and other groups held a public meeting about “troubles in the area”
300 attendees, and a questionaire on entry

Q1 … have you been attacked in the past year?
Q2… have you heard of, or know someone who has been?
Q3… do you think you will be attacked?

99% said they hadn’t been attacked
1% said they knew of someone who had been
100% feared they would be

perception V’s reality?

look up flu history for 100yrs…
30,000 dead on number of occasions in history… no mass hysteria, no lockdowns…
just let it run it’s course…
they even thought the Italians had dreamt up “Influenza”… as a name for the common cold!

january, this year, i went to the dentist, an hour later i had sore throat, by midnight i had a full blown cold…
no fever, but sore throat, a cough that felt like i busted a rib, was sat in a chair for 4 days, no energy, couldn’t move… and 7 week later it was finally gone…
now forgotten, except to recount it…

You really haven’t a clue have you?

sorry to hear of your loss
the 100+ people i know locally would share the same empathy
they’re ALL over 70, i’m heading there too fast

but my mate Paul would also love to join the discussion, he was 77,ex-cid
sadly he was cremated 3 weeks ago, they refused to keep his appointments for his prostate cancer, he lost 15kg in 4 months, xmas to april…
they cancelled his regular check ups,mid august, A&E discovered metastasis at stage 4 in the lungs… 3 weeks later he was gone!
my other half has a displaced vertebra and severe, chronic pain to walk or even be in the car… her rdv was cancelled for 1st april
finally saw the spine specialist at start of july… possibly facing a fusing of the vertebrae… later in the year.
The living are as important as the poor souls covid took?

what treatments are you on now?
presuming you’re in trouble with symptoms, not just a statistic?

I believe @toryroo tested negative
As for your friend with cancer it is very sad ,but his weight loss began at Christmas,Covid measures only became strict back end of March
If a hospital refused to continue his cancer appointments the family should really consider complaining

It seems to me that a lot of people are fed up of the measures needed to control this dreadful illness and so have decided they are right and the experts wrong

As Eddie said I was negative, did you not read my posts about why I tested? This seemed to be an issue with you that testing is a waste.
