Always a good read, Graham, the best account Iâve read to date of how local government elections work, and why itâs no easy ride for the locally appointed mayor.
At least in this commune the mayor is a recognisable and accessible figure and not just an occasional picture in the local press, wearing his/her chain of office and a plumed bonnet.
Forming a picture of the political life of France is rather like putting together a jigsaw puzzle of 1 000 pieces and no picture on the lid of the box.
