Tory MP Sir David Amess dies after stabbing

That’s quite shocking Izzy.
He moved from Basildon (a well known Essex hotspot) to Southend West where Vanessa’s parents lived which was a much safer location, in essence.
The number of MPs being attacked in this way is concerning. MPs of all flavours do an incredible job in the communities they serve. I never personally met David but had a very close friend who had when he was at Basildon.
Absolutely terrible news :slightly_frowning_face:

It really is awful. Watching it unfold on BBC News right now. So shocking.

What on earth is going on, is anybody safe!

Utterly horrendous and something which does us all a disservice as MPs will (rightly) be much more cautious about direct access to them by the public; which damages democracy at the end of the day.

We do not yet know the motivation behind the attack.

Though one can’t help wondering whether there is an element of “sow the wind, reap the whirlwind” as with Jo Cox’s murder.

not to forget of course MP Stephen Timms who was stabbed in his surgery in 2010 but thankfully survived.
BBC article

Not new sadly……quite a few MPs murdered in 80’s/90’s over Ireland including Airey Neave.

Macron got hit by an egg a couple of weeks ago whilst on a walkabout, could easily have been something more lethal.
