Toto Wolff to sell 5% of Mercedes F1 team

According to the FT (archived), Toto Wolff could be selling 5% of Mercedes F1 team to the owner of Crowdstrike, diluting his individual ownership but still retaining his parent company’s 33% hold.

If the figures are to be believed this would value the team at an astonishing £6Bn…! :scream:

I’ve been watching F1 for so long that I remember when Mercedes bought the team from Ross Brawn, who himself had bought the BAR team (British American Racing) from Honda in 2008 I think… for the pricely sum of £1.

And a little bit of innovation and a good driver (JB) became world champions

Indeed, I’d forgotten about the double diffuser…!

The original racing license was for Team Tyrrell , which was sold to BAR.

Ah yes, the Great Ken, inventor of the F1 six-wheeler, which was swiftly made redundant by rule changes - wonder why?

Actually the automotive Gordon Murray is still at it:

If I remember correctly he thought the drag reduction in frontal area through smaller wheels would outweigh the increased rolling resistance. It didn’t.

Just a hoover to create downforce. The problem was the cars behind were in a cloud of dust and small pebbles :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Problem ?

I guess it was like being in a bead blaster being behind it, except instead off sand, having rocks, bits of tyres and anything else on the circuit fired at you at great force…..

I probably shouldn’t have glibly used the hackneyed phrase, a sand blaster from the hoover attachment, not your usual dust and pebbles, would have been a better comparison, plus all those little balls (like marbles) of rubber that bleed off the tyres.
