Travelling down from Caen to Villenueve sur Lot

We are driving from Caen to Villenueve sur Lot at the end of February and would really appreciate suggestions on places that we simply must see on the way down - we are into old towns, dramatic scenery, art and the odd and unusual. Any ideas please let us know. Thanks.

Falaise … just south of Caen … Was the birthplace of William the Conqueror. Very interesting conservation of the castle. Pretty market town, buzzing on a Saturday.

Thank you for taking the time to suggest these places. My grand father landed on Normandy beaches and we have been to where he landed and followed his route for a while which was very interesting.

If you come via Tours then the Abbaye de Fontevraud is the last resting place of Eleanor of Aqutaine. A little to the west of Tours is the Chateau of Azay le Rideau. A curiousity a little further south is Vilaines les Rochers a whole vilage dedicated to basket weaving or Vannerie.

Depending on the route you take, Chartres is worth seeing.

The Gothic Cathedral is a UNESCO world heritage site, built in the 12th and 13th Centuries.
