UK medical records

Has anyone offered their old UK medical to their French GP?

Because I have a chronic disease, and needed to be able to get specialist drugs pretty quickly I requested all my medical records, including scans and x-rays, before I left the UK definitively. I then summarised them in French into bullet points on single side of A4, and also translated the most relevant documents completely. Only the single piece of A4 and scans were of any real interest, but because I had the rest I think it gave my GP the confidence to prescribe drugs etc for me during the 7 months wait to see a specialist. Without them I would have had to return to the UK.

So for me it was worth doing. Otherwise I’m not sure. Doctors don’t generally read much because of time pressure.

I had to scrabble some records together in order to ensure rapid referrals and treatment.

Morning All

When we moved here permanently we gave a copy of our records to our French GP, he obviously gave them a quick scan though as he was aware of my medical conditions when i had my first visit.

Not sure it was worth what we paid our UK GP for the records, as my first visit was a half hour discussion of all my issues, very impressed.

Yes - gave our French GP our complete UK medical history including X-rays and MRI scans.
Also summarised our history and translated into French.
Additionally, also uploaded the lot to our DMP (Dossier Medical Partage).

Appears to have been a complete waste of time, which is why we of thinking of switching to a younger doctor who is more au fait with IT.

I would be very disappointed if a GP did not think it necessary to make his own full assessment of the health of any new patient.
There may well be many incompatibilities between the way medical records are held in different countries (in addition to language) so it is not just a simple matter of slotting your UK records into the French “digital filing cabinet.”
Of course, it is important to have information about your medical history to hand, so you can answer his questions, but you should be able to be confident that he will take very good care of you.
It it were not for Brexit, the day might have come when medical records could have been shared continent wide in digital format. Just one more opportunity we are throwing away.

Brexit has absolutely nothing to do with sharing medical records across Europe.

Europe is about harmonization. Sharing information. Agreeing on the best way to test and trace the progress of viruses. Agreed standards of safety and minimum wages. One day even, fair pensions for all.
Is your Brave new Brexit going to allow the UK to sign up to future European health initiatives?
Where did you read that?
