Has anyone followed the guidance regarding renewing a UK Passport from France? Looking for any experiences and things to avoid.
Fingers and toes crossed, although we have three years until the next renewal is due so whatever the 'system' is then let us hope it is better than this new bad take off.
Bu***r,
Oh well, thanks for the info. Still got a while to go before mine expires, but nonetheless, damned inconvenient having to rely solely on courier communications from the UK. The FCO, for all its failings, at least allowed you to get things done in one go)
I firmly believe the system will improve. The PPO have admitted to my missus that they were caught out by the new system & have said they will use her example as a training aid! The truth is it can't get any worse so the only way is up !!
No sir, the embassy system of getting a new passport is long gone. In fact the new improved online application that began between my daughter's renewal in November and my own in December is now the third version since consular and embassy went. At least they have put the price down for what was absolute daylight robbery for bad service and feeble excuses. The 'promise' is to always try to process and deliver in about four weeks. Thus far this and a previous thread will tell you they are not doing very well at what appears to be an average of about eleven weeks thus far. Why they ended the embassy renewals is beyond me, my Swiss wife is going up to Paris with our daughters to do the renewal on a booked date in June whereby they do the photographs, the form is filled in there and the passports which are biometric, as the UK one now is, will be sent directly here from the Swiss passport authority in about three days.
Why is the UK different? I think some of us here on SFN might put a book together on that one.
So, having read the thread, is it better to go to the Paris FCO and get it renewed there in person, or trust Durham to sometime-maybe-never-within-a-month-of-Sundays sort it out in any decent time frame ?
7 -10 what? Hrs, days ?
Try 0044 1733888584. This is the PP office DHL Liaison team at Peterborough. Hurry 'cos they shut at 1630 hrs
I had to stay behind and lose the price of a flight because I was not here. Do a sickie perhaps!
Oh what a lucky bunny I am, Vic... Richard is not working the phones this week and his collegue couldn't help without a tracking number ... The passport line 03002220000 tells me they can't give me my tracking number - they have to request it by mail to Durham which will take 3 days ... I asked them to do it anyway. I have to work, Brian, so I've stuck my phone number on my front door hoping that DHL will phone me if they call when I'm out so I can at least pick it up at their depot - praying they won't send it back to England ! Grrr ! lol ! Anyway - at least I followed the online advice and didn't book anything - so It's going to be a very last minute booking at best ! Thanks all x
You should get it by the skin of your teeth but do NOT go out or move more than 10cm from your phone or else make my hash of it and see the passport sent back :-(
Hi Vic, My PP was dispatched from the UK on April 22nd. They have announced a 7 to 10 delivery delay but I was hoping to travel this Saturday (J10 :-/ ! I'm travelling from Corsica and will be passing through mainland France so wanted to know if it was possible to get them to hold it for me there ... I'll try Richard - thanks for yoyur help x
Debbie. Try Richard at Collaboration Team, Premier customer services, DHL International (UK) Ltd, Castle Donnington. Tel 0844 2480635. How long have you been waiting as we may have other numbers/contacts depending where in the chain your PP is? My wife is now an expert PP chaser!
Thanks ever so much Brian, I'll try to get in touch with DHL today. (Hoping to go on holidays this weekend !)
DHL, Vic's wife's too.
Hello, I'm waiting for my passport back from Durham and would like to know which courier is likely to deliver it. Does anyone remember who delivered theirs please ?
That is a familiar song, although I believe the delivery man who also shook his head and said the office people are useless. The sting is that DHL have no complaints procedure for the delivery end of the job!
Final update.
PP arrived April 22nd by DHL. Old one delivered at same time. According to the tracking advice suddenly available DHL had tried to deliver twice before but unexplicably had left no message to this effect in our letter box!!. WHAT A RUBBISH SERVICE.
Good point... All that money for a snifter or two or...
Wot! pay to get her back?
Easy. Put her in a parcel and send her DHL! It might extend your fun with the boules blokes for a wee while to boot.
