That would be my preference too.
Having spent many years flood wiring data cables in business premises, I would never just chop the end of a cable without knowing what’s on the other end of it…
There’s enough cable there to remake the end, terminated in a proper box either surface mounted or chased in to the wall to give a flush mount. Much tidier!
