~~Video~~ Streaming Killed the Radio Star

I just saw this report on the demise of music being broadcast on MTV.

It’s perhaps a long overdue decision… Kids haven’t watched MTV to hear music for decades. My friends’ kids all watch things on their phone, not the TV these days. But from a nostalgic point of view, it feels like a part of my teenage years has just died. It’s the end of an era :sob:

Somewhat ironically, the last music video they played was “Hello” by Adele :squinting_face_with_tongue: So, goodbye MTV and thanks for the memories.

OTOH I’ve been working out chez nous for about twenty years now, so haven’t been in a gym for a while, but hopefully the demise of MTV will have made them a bit quieter…

If you like that, wait until Hollywood’s slop era and streaming closes all the movie theatres in a year or two.

No such luck at my gym. They have TVs showing sports channels but pipe their own choice of music throughout the gym - even the showers aren’t spared.

You mean cinemas? Well it was touted as putting the cinemas out of business years ago but didn’t happen as folk do like a big screen and high end film sound stage. Not so much the overpriced buckets of cola and endless buckets of pick n mix :joy:

No point in MTV music channels when you can just go to YouTube and watch the music video you want to see

And YouTube is available on phones.

…although, as my friend’s son tells me, YouTube is for us oldies

I love it, my go to channel when all the terrestrials are boring at the same time, and I haven’t missed Netflix once since they thought they were punishing me and withdrew the inscription. :joy:

Adele. Music to drive your car into a tree by. She makes Leonard Cohen sound cheery.

Anyway an Echo Dot and an Amazon Music subscription have killed radio and music video streaming for me. I can listen to anything on a whim without lifting a finger.

I thought that was T. Rex
