The e-sims I used (like Airalo) are data only and I used WhatsApp to make calls. Holafly and Lyca (I think have a ‘real’ number. I stand to be corrected though 
Hi there, have you thought of contacting where you will be staying and asking them to arrange a taxi/similar for you and the others. At very least they’ll be able to give you on the spot advice

Problem with whatsapp or I could go data only, when I am trying to call a hotel, person, restaurant, I need it to be able to call a french number, if it was just communicating with friends, data only is fine
