Your inference was incorrect. As @Mik_Bennett has said, it’s a dangerous precedent. We have a police service and private citizens patrolling the streets is fraught with problems. The Brownshirts cleared riff raff from the streets and I expect that’s what the patrols will do to people they perceive to be riff raff.

I think there might be an argument, not one I agree with, that becuase the RefUKers are elected by Essex citizens, then they have a democratic mandate. I woud say that the UK Police forces carry out National laws, not local laws. This is from a party that talks about national identity of course, not local autonomy.
If you look at the RefUK Ltd mindset, their rhetoric and their actions are largely contradictory…mind you, they are not unique in that!

Private security bods receive nothing like the level of training that actual police officers do - they are therefore much more likely IMHO to exceed their mandate, get inflated ideas of their authority, and respond inappropriately if challenged.
You’ve only got to wander around the City of London doing street photography to find out how officious and ignorant of the law private security “blokes in uniforms” can be.

To be fair to him (yuk) I seem to recall Labour were pretty terrible for this during their last conference too, particularly to anyone who was critical of Israel. I think Kemi yanked a few press passes of critical journalists too hours, if not minutes before the start of conference. Everyone’s for the free press until it’s people saying things they don’t like, and tbh I can see both sides.

If the pension that people have paid for over the years is cancelled, why not just ask a mate for a few £million instead? No questions asked, nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

At risk of reopening an old argument, no one has paid for their state pension. State pensions are paid from government receipts at the time of payment and our taxes pay for today’s pensioners.
