Our coffee machine, which normally only needs cleaning every 2 months is signalling “clean me” rather regularly. So asked our plumber to test water as we’re on granite, not lime. Obviously our water comes from elsewhere as tested as 35TH which he said was very hard.
Who has a water softener?
How much did it cost to get one installed (we are not into DIY right now)?
Has it made a difference?
Limescale wrecking our coffee machine would not be welcome!
We had one like that in last house. Very effective for filtering out grub - the first cartridge was very grubby after a couple of months. But we didn’t notice much effect of limescale as kettle got scaly quickly and had to descale separately. Do you?
I’ve had mine for 18 months and, just bought some new filters but so far so good. I’ve just got to get down on my knees to change them…then get back up
We have had one for years in Surrey - our water is very hard and without it things fur up very quickly.
Now on our second one (both from Harveys whose HQ is in Woking) - the first one lasted 15+ years do not bad.
Harveys / Culligan do seem to have a bit of a monopoly in the UK at least - they supply retailers under a number of different brands.
Definitely recommended if your water is hard. We had a “Quooker” tap fitted in the kitchen some years ago and the herbert who installed it assured us it would be fine running off the direct unsoftened mains supply.
It wasn’t - it furred up completely within 14 months - luckily Quooker replaced the innards under warranty.
We had to get our plumber to reconnect it to the soft water side of things.
