What do you do with ---

A dead fluorescent light, six dead GU10 LED lamps and a £1.60 LED driver from AliExpress?

Hah, very good.

I changed one of the garage fittings for LED when the fluorescent tube failed. It’s a much nicer light and I want to change the rest but can’t bring myself to do it while they’re still working.

I recently installed these in our barn - they are very good.

That’s a good price, out of stock for now though

I bought these

(or similar, not sure these were the exact ones) for the garage chez moi in the UK a few years ago to replace some 58W fluorescent lamps - they are quite bright!

But I had accumulated rather a large number of dead GU10 lamps, normally it is the miniature switch mode PSU crammed into the stem which heads off for the great electronics store in the sky - the LEDs themselves generally are OK, but very difficult to remove from the small, circular aluminium PCB to which they are soldered - so half a dozen got repurposed. The electronic ballast in the fluorescent had died (the cellar seems to like killing anything electronic) so I needed a new lamp and this seemed the cheapest way of doing it.

Strictly it wound up being a £3.20 LED driver because I bought two, one of which was DoA

I recently binned the florescent lights in the utility room. As the fixtures were the ancient white metal ones from last century, I just went new ABS housings with LED tubes from Weldom.

Well, I’ve bought these kinds of Chinese gadgets, which work really well and let me use them both indoors and outdoors. I move them around and attach them however I need. The light isn’t harsh on the eyes :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Just do it John. I did it years ago in the garage and the cave. No more flicker, flicker, bezzzip, bezzzip shit.. and then light. Which drove me mad. Just on/off no hassle. You don’t need to change anything except the tubes and put in a dummy starter.

Except the whole fitting is usually better as the diffusers are designed for the LED and often better than the ones for fluorescent

Yes, I just replaced the tubes in the garage. There were three so overall coverage was more than adequate. But I put in only two genuine LED jobbies in the much larger cave. There are absolutely fine and give better illumination than the garage three.

Any relation to the Guildford Four?

Stick them in the trash along with the duff set of EL 84 valves ( tubes) I got from them!
