What odds on an early Israeli strike on Iran?

Short memories, some folk have Tim!

Bill, if your comment on short memories refers to the Holocaust (it may not) then there is hardly anyone alive who has a direct memory of any personal experience of that, including most Jews.

The word Holocaust is often used to close down any discussions about the modern state of Israel, as is the accusatory and unreflective smear “antisemite” used in the same way.

The current state of affairs deserves lively debate, short of racist or deliberately provocative opinion. I may be wide of what you actually meant by dodgy ground, but although we all share interest in our lives in France as (to differing extents) ‘outsiders’, we also have a natural interest in world events, and SFN is one of our reliable and safe meeting places.

I don’t think Bill was going back that far, Peter… see his comments on the other Thread…

“Palistinians have lost 90% of their land in damascus”

What? There are lots of Palestinians in Syria, but they aren’t massively happy to be there because of being treated not v well and forced to do military service… but I don’t know what “they have lost 90% of their land in Damascus” has to do with Israel.
Even when I lived in Damascus a long time ago ( the mid 1980s) we were regularly buzzed by the Israeli air force, obviously nothing could be done about it… as long as the US keep supporting what the Arab press call ‘the reigning terrorist crew in tel Aviv’ nothing will change.

Can you point me to the thread Bill means, please Stella? I don’t want to do Bill wrong, he is always a very reasonable and plain-speaking man, and he loves ducks/geese…or a duck/goose, who loves him back.:roll_eyes::no_mouth:

This is what Bill is meaning… and I think you have found the other thread, which I have now lost for some reason

My stance entirely Peter, cannot countenance the insanity in US foreign policy, or ours since Vietnam, will lead to yet more terror and useless bloodshed.

A worthwhile perspective that rises above mere rhetoric and draws on lived experience from a credible source.

What I was referring to was the hijacking and bombing of planes by the PLO, resulting in the deaths of many innocents, that wasn’t a million years ago.
But not suggesting for a second ‘two wrongs’ can make a ‘right’, but that period was pretty horrific too.
When I worked in Saudi Arabia Vero, Israeli jets regularly did ‘bumps’ on the local runway, presumably as a ‘wind up’.

Goodness me it would be very interesting to see you all at a dinner table lol :joy: where religion and politics are not allowed :joy:
Very healthy discussions going on here!!

Very tragic subject at the mo’ though!

Your spelling is atrocious

@Brian_Biggs you are so uncool… better to say (with irony) that his spelling was solid… :sunglasses:

Afraid my diplomacy is akin to the yanks at times Peter; is there

no spell checker on SF? Not sure.

Tim’s post was impeccable. Were you replying to the right person?

Errmm… Allahu akbar, constable?

Well this discussion has certainly taken a strange direction.

We have to think ourselves very fortunate not to be surrounded by nation states that are hell bent on our total annihilation.
