It's a glorious day here is the southern Landes, and as it's a bank holiday, we both have the morning off! We will be heading to the beach shortly, it's still a bit chilly but should be lovely by the time we get there in an hour or so.
Went to Church this morning (as an Anglican not too comfortable about Assomptiom) but after everyone chatted went to the bakers and the market together. A lovely typical, friendly small town. Don’t laugh! I cooked Kangaroo for lunch (typical French cuisine!)
We do not do the “pont” as we are retired, it’s always a pont for us!
A couple of hours of extreme weeding in the melon patch this morning, then a swim whilst the belly pork cooks in the oven for lunch. This afternoon we are going to the next village, Sivignon, for their annual "Chanson", an amateur singing contest. We will meet up with friends and be totally judgemental about their efforts. We shall not be staying for the evening meal, they feed about 1,000 people. They do have a caterer, but for a small village of just about 200 people they are dynamic.
In Quillan, down south of Carcassonne, the town is blaring announcements of four days of music and dancing in the squares, going on until 2.30 am, starting today. Some of the locals are groaning - but me, I'm delighted!
Working this morning on a Survey Report on a property then we will go for a 60K bike ride (a bit shorter if it gets too hot!).
Then we`re going out for a meal to celebrate a nice cheque from the Tresor public as I appear to have been overcharged tax in 2011 - I was staggered to receive it!
weeding the garden and picking beans and fruit of the passion flower vine, followed by blackberries... in NZ it's called a Public Holiday (my son called it that in UK and apparently got a rollicking from his colleagues!)
Been out with the dogs, now off to the garden, maybe a little light weeding, or maybe a glass of wine and a good book????? Other half is redesigning the camper bathroom.......each to his own!
As little as possible! Most definitely not the beach, as it will be packed solid. I’m going to actually enjoy my garden, quaff some local wine, eat ice-cream swim and not feel guilty for doing so, as it is a bank holiday.
We have an edit for the final version of an online publication (then we can be paid) and then there is an author reading in a local bookshop and music nearby this evening.
Hoovering and tidying up the house. As my 2.5 weeks as a celibataire technique draws to a close this afternoon, I need to get the house looking like someone actually lives here before the family arrive home.
