Woodworm solutions

Does anyone know of a good solution for woodworm in a 200 year old French farmhouse, near Auxerre? We know there are a few beams with them in and we have been treating the wood. Are there any companies who could assess the whole property.

Hello Gordon,
Welcome to the forum, there are a few of us in Burgundy.
I live near Auxerre, I live in Vézealy. Sorry not my professional competence, I’d wait for @Rob_le_Pest to reply, but woodworm is easily treated and only attacks wood depending type & on age, but I can advise on building architectural /engineering solutions, I’d be happy to advise a neighbour, aussi gardening, soil health.

Hi Gordon

What seems to be the problem? Please feel free to share photos of any damage.

You’re not in a termite hotspot, I’ve done the Xylophage Diagnostic training course, so I can give a report if you need one.

NB. I didn’t do the exam because one can’t diagnose then treat, they deem it a conflict of interest. There’s more money in treating!!

If you’ve been treating, you should’t need to keep reapplying. If the tin says 2 coats, that’s all you need. More coatings won’t make the wood more protected, it’s just wasting money.

Some larvae/beetles can live in wood for several years, they will die either on the way in, or out.

Happy to advise through SFN, or you can pm me your details and I’ll call you.

Thanks @JaneJones and @Wozza for the bouche d’oreilles

? VĂ©zelay?

Thank you for the information. We are away from the house at the moment but back in a couple of weeks. I will take some photographs then and forward them to you.
Many thanks
